A simple, delicious, homemade bread dressing. This is a wonderful side dish that is perfect for thanksgiving or anytime of the year. Substitute bread of your choice if desired.

Ingredients
1poundItalian bread loaf cubed
3/4cupbutter
1oniondiced
4celery stalksdiced
1granny smith applepeeled, cored, and diced
2tsppoultry seasoning
salt and pepper to taste
1poundground breakfast sausage
1cupchicken broth
Instructions
Place the cubed bread pieces on a large baking sheet and allow to dry for 1-2 days (see note below for alternative)
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F
Cook ground breakfast sausage in a skillet over medium heat until cooked through. Set aside
In a dutch oven over medium heat, melt the butter. Add onion, celery, and apple and cook until soft about 8-10 minutes. Add the poultry seasoning and salt and pepper to taste and cook 2 minutes longer. Mix in the cooked breakfast sausage. Remove from heat
Stir in bread bread cubes until evenly coated. Moisten with chicken broth and mix well. Place dressing into a 9x13 inch casserole dish and bake in preheated oven for 30 minutes
Notes
If you don't want to dry out your bread for 1-2 days. Simply bake the bread cubes on a baking sheet in a 200 degree F preheated oven for 20-30 minutes, shaking the pan halfway through. You can store dried cubes in a Ziploc bag until ready to use.
