Ingredients

Meatballs

  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1/2 chopped yellow onion
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 1/4 cup plain bread crumbs
  • 1/2 tsp fresh ground black pepper
  • 1/8 tsp ground allspice
  • 1/8 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 pinch cayenne pepper, or to taste
  • 1/2 pound ground beef chuck
  • 1/2 pound ground pork

Gravy

  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 3 1/2 cups beef broth
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 tsp white sugar
  • 1/4 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

Meatballs

  • Melt 2 tbsp of butter in skillet over medium heat. Add the onion and 1 tsp of salt and cook until onions softened
  • Transfer onions to a bowl. Add egg, milk, bread crumbs, black pepper, allspice, nutmeg, cayenne pepper, beef, and pork and mix until combined. Cover and refrigerate for about an hour
  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. Spray baking sheet with cooking spray
  • Roll mixture into meatballs and place on baking sheet
  • Bake in preheated oven about 30 minutes. Alternatively, you can choose to cook meatballs in a skillet over medium heat until nicely brown on all sides

Gravy

  • Melt 1/4 cup butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Whisk in flour and cook until golden brown. Slowly whisk in beef broth
  • Increase heat to medium-high and whisk in cream, bring to a simmer. Add sugar and Worcestershire sauce. Simmer until thickened about 7 minutes. Season to taste with salt and pepper
  • Add meatballs into gravy and let simmer about 7-10 minutes

Notes

You can serve these delicious meatballs over egg noodles (my favorite) or mashed potatoes.  You can use all ground beef if preferred, the end result is still fantastic!
