Cole Slaw


This is my favorite homemade coleslaw recipe. It's fast and simple to prepare and tastes delicious. I let it sit overnight for best results.

  • 1 16 oz package coleslaw mix
  • 1 tbsp onion minced
  • 2 1/2 tbsp white sugar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/8 tsp fresh ground black pepper
  • 1/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 1/2 tsp white vinegar
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice


  • In a large bowl combine sugar, salt, pepper, milk, buttermilk, mayonnaise, white vinegar, and lemon juice. Stir until smooth
  • Add in the coleslaw mix and minced onion; mix well
  • Cover and refrigerate at least 4 hours before serving or overnight


Substitute premade coleslaw mix for chopped or diced cabbage along with shredded carrots to equal about 4 1/2 cups if desired.
