Fried Shrimp

Simple, delicious, homemade fried shrimp. This recipe uses flour, bread crumbs, and seasonings including Old Bay that results in a crispy and delicious coating. Make as a main course, side dish, or appetizer!

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup plain bread crumbs
  • 2 tsp Old Bay Seasoning
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tsp onion powder
  • 2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Cajun seasoning optional
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 pound shrimp peeled and deveined
  • 4 cups vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  • Pour buttermilk into a shallow bowl
  • In a separate shallow bowl, whisk together flour, bread crumbs, Old Bay seasoning, black pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, and Cajun seasoning
  • Dip shrimp in buttermilk, then dredge in the flour mixture. Shake off excess flour and place on baking sheet
  • Place oil in a Dutch oven or heavy pan and heat to 350 degrees F
  • Fry shrimp a few at a time 2-3 minutes. DO NOT overcook or shrimp will become rubbery. Remove to a paper towel lined baking sheet to drain. Serve immediately
