Best Sugar Cookies
I have been making this recipe every Christmas for many years. I have tried many sugar cookie recipes and this one has always been my favorite. Frost with sugar cookie frosting and everyone will be amazed how delicious these cookies look and taste. This recipe yields a lot of cookies, perfect for gift giving around the holidays.

Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups softened butter
- 2 cups white sugar
- 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
- 4 eggs
- 5 cups flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tsp baking powder
Instructions
- Cream softened butter and sugar in a large bowl until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time. Beat in vanilla until combined
- In a smaller bowl mix together flour, salt, and baking powder. Stir flour mixture into butter mixture until well combined. Cover and place dough into refrigerator at least 1 hour or overnight
- Remove dough from refrigerator and allow to set at room temperature for about 30 minutes. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Roll dough on floured surface 1/2 to 1/4 inch thick. Using cookie cutter shapes cut dough. Place cookies on ungreased baking sheet 1 inch apart.
- Bake 6 to 8 minutes. Cool on baking sheet for 10 minutes, place cookies on wire rack to cool completely
Notes
Make softer cookies by baking for about 6 minutes, crispier cookies bake for 8 minutes.
